How to Leverage Your Amenities

Amenities can be the make or break details for guests determining which hotel to book for their vacation. Ensuring you have the basic amenities and knowing how to leverage them for your property are key to running a successful lodging business.

According to PwC’s Consumer Intelligence Series Report on hotel brand loyalty, “Both business and leisure travelers say room quality is the #1 reason for choosing a hotel.” Guests no longer want just a roof over their heads when they travel. They want to pamper themselves with top-notch amenities and accommodations.

This doesn’t mean every room needs silk sheets, hot tubs, or beautiful views. It means that the basic amenities that you do provide should look and feel luxurious and special.

So, before you start adding gold fixtures in your bathrooms, make sure you have the basic room amenities your guests are looking for and learn how to package them in such a way that makes them more than just the “basic”.

While these are amenities that you most likely already provide, knowing how to leverage them is key in making yourself stand out amongst your competitors.

High-quality bed linens and pillows

First and foremost, your guests have decided to stay with you to have a place to rest their head at night. So make it the best night’s sleep they have ever had. Consider upgrading your bed linens to more breathable fabrics and make your pillows, plush, plump and soft. A well-rested guest is a happy guest!

Soft, large bath towels

Keeping in line with your guests’ comfort, second to high-quality bed linens are soft, large bath towels. Provide over-sized and soft bath towels in varying sizes, for different uses. This is a small detail that makes guests feel like they are living in the lap of luxury.

Wi-Fi

You may provide Wi-Fi, but do your guests have to pay for it? Most hotels now offer complimentary Wi-Fi. If you are still charging, this is an easy amenity to upgrade and offer to your guests for free!

Complimentary refreshments

Nothing puts off a guest more than refreshments and snacks available in their room that are only available at an extra cost. It creates a sense of being nickeled and dimed. Instead, offer complimentary coffee or tea or have nothing at all. These simple amenities will leave your guests feeling cared for instead of as another opportunity to make money!

Surprise and delight

Dare to be different than your competitor. Do this by offering a little something extra upon your guests’ arrival. It can be as simple as a flower in the room, freshly baked cookies in the lobby, or a local welcome package. Think of what makes your property special and showcase that to your guest in the form of a little something extra.

Of course, not every guest is the same and each will have their own needs and set of expectations. While it may be hard to please everyone all the time, these small details are a few ways to get closer to 100% satisfaction.
